Bucs Fans Be Patient...
By Ron Jumper

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers draft left many fans in confusion and anger. They wondered what Jon Gruden was doing and some even felt this draft was bad enough to get him fired. Well Bucs fans, this is why your just drinking a beer and watching the game. If you look a little deeper it wasn't actually that bad a draft.

Draft Grade: B-
The Bucs drafted for needs and needs only. They got straight to the point with their picks. This team has a young quarterback at the helm and an awesome young tailback who can carry the load. Bucs fans have complained about the O-Line for years and now should finally have some help on the way in that area. Davin Joseph is a great run blocking offensive guard and, if my memory serves me right, that is exactly what the Bucs need. Remember those games where it was Cadilac 1 yard, Cadilac 2 yards, Cadilac -1 yards, and so on until we just started throwing every down. Cadilac had 5 games of 10+ carries with less than 30 yards so Joseph makes sense here. Trueblood is a high potential pick. He has ideal size at 6'8" 316 and probably won't be asked to start right away. This segways into my analysis on the rest of their picks. The Bucs didn't have any needs other than depth. They have the top ranked defense that is aging so asking them to be patient while rookie starters develop is erronius. Offensively, there is youth at every skill position already. WR Maurice Stovall and CB/FS Alan Zemaitis provide depth at thier respective positions. Stovall has great size at 6'4", runs a 4.6, and is coming off a 1000-yard season at Notre Dame, who run a similat style passing game. Zemaitis is an ideal cornerback for a cover 2 scheme and, unless Monte Kiffin crokes before the season starts, thats what defense the Bucs are playing. He also projects as a solid FS prospect, so he provides depth at two places. Overall, the Bucs addressed needs and took a pretty safe route to do it. None of these guys should be holdouts or even really be that expensive, considering the Bucs are not in a great shape concerning the cap.
