College Football Is Just Around The Corner
By Ron Jumper

Watching the draft is always interesting and entertaining but, after you watch clips of these players for 8 hours, you really want to see some good college football games. It gets harder and harder to pass the time until those indescribable moments on Saturday are upon us. There is nothing better than the anticipation of your favorite team’s chances on your way to the stadium. It doesn’t matter whether your in the front row on the 50-yardline or up in the nosebleeds, you are there to watch your team play, to cheer, to celebrate when they win, and to stand behind them when they lose because it is your passion that makes you feel alive inside.

The upcoming season appears to be a highly anticipated one due to the fact that so many teams quietly feel they have what it takes to win it all. There is no juggernaut like USC that will have a cakewalk to an undefeated season. Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and LSU have the SEC thinking it might be time for an SEC team to be crowned national champ, not to mention Steve Spurrier has another year at South Carolina. Ohio State appears poised for a title run, while Michigan looks to return to its usual place in the top ten out of the Big Ten. The Big East even has two legitimate teams worthy of optimism in West Virginia( some consider the darkhorse preseason #1) and Louisville with Michael Bush planning to run wild. The ACC has Florida State, Miami, and Virginia Tech who always feel they are capable of winning it all on any year, especially when there is no clear favorite. The Big XII has the defending national champion Texas Longhorns, as well as re-emerging football powerhouses Oklahoma and Nebraska. The Pac-10 has USC and California to compete for a chance at a shot at an undefeated season. Notre Dame football is back and don’t expect it to go anywhere.

The other area for excitement is that there isn’t a clear favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. There is no Matt Leinart or Reggie Bush just waiting to hear his name called. The fact that any of the 18 teams above could have a player break onto the scene, as the result of a great season, is exciting enough in itself to watch college football this season.

As it gets closer to the beginning of the season there will a complete top 25 preview, conference previews, and Heisman previews so stay tuned.
