Free College Football Picks: Week 7
By Ron Jumper

It is that wonderful time of the week again. Time to make this week’s picks. This is that week where we start to really get a feel for how the conferences are going to shake up. If Florida can get it done at Auburn, then the Gators are for real. If Missouri can get to 7-0 with a big win in College Station, they might be legitimate contenders in the Big 12. If the Miami Hurricanes can get past the talented Florida International…okay, so I was just checking to see if you were paying attention.

Rutgers (+2.5) covers vs. Navy

In a way, this game worries me but, when I really look at it, I just can’t see Rutgers going down to Navy. Granted, the Scarlet Knights will have their hands full stopping that vaunted option attack. People need to realize this Rutgers team does the little things, and teams that do the little things don’t get upset near as often. Being able to run the ball and having great special teams play is a monumental advantage when you play on the road. Expect Navy to make it exciting but, in the end, Rutgers will get it done. Rutgers 28-21

Ole Miss (+15) covers vs. Alabama

Ole Miss has quietly played good football these last two weeks, losing to Georgia by 5 and beating Vanderbilt by 7. Bama, on the other hand, has had poor outings against Florida and Duke the last 2 weeks. The wheels could come spinning off for Mike Shula’s club with another poor performance. With the backup quarterback quitting the team this week, the Tide had better hope sophomore QB John Parker Wilson doesn’t go down. Bama 17-14

Utah (-3) covers vs. Wyoming

It is real simple for this matchup. The Utes are by far the superior team and Wyoming doesn’t have a great home field advantage with its limited fan base. Don’t expect this one to stay close for too long. Utah 38-10

Risk $22 to Win $20

Florida State (-23) covers vs. Duke

The Seminoles aren’t the Seminoles of old but this is still the same Duke. However you would like to slice and dice it, you can’t come up with a reason the Blue Devils will stay in this game for longer than a quarter. Noles 35-7

Risk $22 to Win $20

UAB (-5.5) covers vs. Rice

The Blazers have quietly been an impressive Conference USA team this season. Boasting an unblemished conference record and close losses to BCS conference schools, I can’t help but think UAB is going to take care of business at Rice. The Owls haven’t been able to have any success this season and are running on fumes due to the fact they have only played at home once in the last 5 games, which was against Texas no less. Expect a flat Rice team to take the field. UAB 24-10

Risk $11 to Win $10
