2008 Top Prospects: Week 3
By R.C.

If you haven't seen the Arkansas-Alabama game from this past Saturday yet, it's worth watching to see the best performance by a RB in recent memory. The only thing that kept Arkansas in the game was Mcfadden's ridiculous talent and even more ridiculous competitiveness. Also this week were some big performances by Matt Ryan and Andre Woodson, to go with an DNP from a stud wideout.

The Top 15:

1) Darren Mcfadden (RB – Arkansas)
If there was any doubt he deserved the top spot (there wasn't), he erased it on Saturday. He single-handedly kept Arkansas in the game, with 33 carries for 195 yards and 2 TD's. The only debate now is who's the best back in the history of the SEC: Mcfadden, Herschel, or Bo?

2) Glen Dorsey (DT – LSU)
LSU had a bye week (okay, they played Middle Tennessee, but come on) with South Carolina up next week. Look for big things from the big guy.

3) QB Andre Woodson (QB- Kentucky)
He was 30-44 for 275 yards with 4 TD's and no interceptions. The last of those TD's came on the game-winning TD in the last minute of the game. If he keeps it up, he'll end up being the #1 QB taken in the draft and maybe #1 overall, too (are you listening, Mr. Brohm?).

4) Dan Conner (LB – Penn State)
Penn State easily took care of hapless Buffalo; Conner is averaging almost 9 tackles per game.
5) Early Doucet (WR – LSU)
Doucet did not play against Middle Tennessee because of an injury, which some reports say is not looking too good. We'll have to monitor it from week-to-week before moving him down.

6) Matt Ryan (QB – Boston College)
After talking bad about him last week, he came back in a huge way in a big win over Georgia Tech. He was 30-44 for 435 yards and a TD. To top it off, he had a sky-high 158 passer rating. And, yes, he's ahead of Brohm (for now).

7) Derrick Harvey (DE – Florida)
His unit absolutely dominated a pretty solid Tennessee team.

8) Brian Brohm (QB – Louisville)
He threw for a ton of yards this week (366), but only threw for 2 TD's with an INT against a weak Kentucky defense.

9) Dennis Dixon (QB-Oregon)
He had a solid performance against Fresno State, 14-20 passing for 139 yards and 2 TD's and 59 yards rushing for a 7.4 average.

10) Steve Slaton (RB – West Virginia)
Had 26 rushes for 137 yards against Maryland. The longer the year goes on, the less I think of him. His back-up Noel Devine seems more explosive, and it's not as if Slaton has a ton of power to make him that much better than Devine.

11) DeSean Jackson (WR – California)
No big play this week to keep his rating inflated. He only has 14 receptions for 112 yards through three games, which isn't much at all for a top wide-out. It seems as if all of his big plays come off of hand-offs or punt returns; he needs to develop consistency in the passing game and produce some big plays there, as well.

12) Felix Jones (RB – Arkansas)
When Mcfadden went out with a concussion in the 4 th quarter against BAMA, Felix made a few big plays. But he also looked easy to take down between the tackles, which is without a doubt Felix's Achilles heel. He's still a top back, but I have my doubts that he could be a high-level every-down back without someone to take the pressure off of him. He's still definite first-round material for his versatility out of the backfield and special teams ability, though.

13) Will Dunbar (S – UAB)
Dunbar continued his excellent play, as he finished with 11 tackles and another interception. He lead the Blazers defense to a shutout as well, granted it was only Alcorn State. Quietly, he is climbing up the scout’s radars.

14) Calais Campbell (DE – Miami)
Quietly, Campbell is having a solid season so far. He has 3.5 TFL, 2 Sacks, and an INT. We’d like to see him have that monster game where he just clearly dominates the line of scrimmage. He has a great opportunity to do that Thursday against the power running game of Texas A&M so he had better take advantage of it. It would go a long way towards keeping him on the list for good.

15) James Laurinaitis (LB – Ohio State)
It is always dangerous when linebackers can get after the quarterback and drop back in coverage. When Laurinaitis registered both a sack and 2 interceptions, he certainly got my attention. Welcome to the list, James.

DROPPED OUT:

Limas Sweed (WR – Texas)
Only 1 catch for 9 yards against Central Florida.

Adarius Bowman (WR – OSU)
His team got embarrassed against Troy, and he didn't provide a ton of help with only 57 yards receiving.

Watchlist:
-SS Kenny Phillips, Miami (1 Interception vs. FIU)
-RB Louis Rankin, Washington (14 carries 42 yards 1 TD vs. OSU)
-RB Marlon Lucky, Nebraska (17 carries 33 yards, 6 catches 41 yards vs. USC)
-WR Earl Bennett, Vanderbilt (11 catches 100 yards vs. Ole Miss)
-RB Demarco McNair, Middle Tennessee (8 carries 8 yards, 2 catches 25 yards vs. LSU)
-WR Mario Urritia, Louisville (5 catches 72 yards vs. Kentucky)
-RB Kalvin McRae, Ohio (22 carries 55 yards 1 TD, 6 catches 26 yards vs. Virginia Tech)
-QB Patrick Pinkney, ECU (20/33 203 yards 2 TDs 1 INT, 39 yards rushing vs. Southern Miss)
-TE Shawn Nelson, Southern Miss (3 catches 61 yards 1 TD vs. East Carolina)
-WR Dorian Bryant, Purdue (6 catches 95 yards, 3 carries 39 yards vs. CMU)
