2008 Top Prospects: Week 6
By R.C.

Dorsey and McFadden is shaping up to be an epic battle for the top spot, as McFadden has come down a little bit these past weeks and Dorsey continues to impress. We also had a big jump from Mr. Jackson, who decided to get him a few receptions this weekend in a big game against Oregon. Here it is…

1) Darren Mcfadden (RB – Arkansas)
Had a very average showing against Tennessee-Chattanooga, and hasn't looked nearly as explosive the last few weeks. He needs to have a big showing on national TV this weekend against Auburn or Dorsey may bump him out of this spot.

2) Glen Dorsey (DT – LSU)
Although he didn't control the Florida game, he did make some big plays on the final drive when he pressured Tebow into some bad throws. He also commanded double teams all night.

3) DeSean Jackson (WR – California)
He finally had that big game receiving: 11 receptions for 161 yards and 2 TD's; his explosiveness is unquestionable but his consistency needs to improve.

4) QB Andre Woodson (QB- Kentucky)
Lost to South Carolina, but still had solid stats. He threw for over 200 yards and two TD's against the nation's #1 pass defense.

5) Brian Brohm (QB – Louisville)
What a day this guy had, 467 yards and 4 TD's with a 67% completion percentage without his #1 receiver in a loss to Utah. Let me say this: Louisville is going to be B-A-D next year without him.
6) Dan Conner (LB – Penn State)
Still the cog in the Penn State defense – without him they would be a level or two down. He added 9 tackles (2 for losses) and a sack to his season totals.

7) Dennis Dixon (QB-Oregon)
He threw for over 300 yards against Cal, but also had two interceptions at critical times. In the college game it's hard to imagine a more perfect QB, although I'm still not sure how his game is going to translate into the pro's. Not to mention, he is also a baseball player at Oregon.

8) Matt Ryan (QB – Boston College)
Had a near perfect game this week, although it was against Bowling Green. Going 24-32 for 312 yards and 4 TD's; not a bad Saturday for sure.

9) Felix Jones (RB – Arkansas)
Maybe this isn't too high for this guy after all; many don't realize it, but he's been just as impressive as McFadden this year and maybe moreso. He has shown the explosiveness that I mentioned McFadden hasn't, and he's dynamite on special teams.

10) Derrick Harvey (DE – Florida)
Played well against LSU, and has five sacks on the year. I’m still waiting on the breakout game, though, where he just dominates the line of scrimage.

11) Calais Campbell (DE – Miami)
Campbell continues to quietly pile up numbers thus far this season, but he could really fly up the charts with a breakout performance. For a defensive end, he fills up a stat sheet: 30 Tackles, 7 TFL, 4 Sacks, 1 Interception, 2 Pass Breakups, 3 QB Hurries, 2 Recovered Fumbles, and 2 Forced Fumbles. Not bad…

12) Will Dunbar (S – UAB)
Dunbar went into last week as the nation’s leading tackler at 13.7 per game, but after missing the Mississippi State game with a knee injury he might not have enough snaps to qualify. None the less, he is having a great season thus far. He also has two interceptions and returned one for a TD against Florida State.

13) Adarious Bowman (WR – Oklahoma State)
After OSU suffered a couple of losses and Bowman wasn’t playing up to par, he fell down the list a little bit. However, he has 283 yards and 3 TDs in his last 2 games. On the season, he has 621 yards and 6 TDs, which is good for 9th in the nation.

14) James Laurinaitis (LB – Ohio State)
His ability in pass coverage is what is setting him apart and putting him on this list. Not to mention, he leads the team in tackles with 48 and is tied for the lead in sacks with 3. With teams coveting versatility and converting to the 3-4, being a jack-of-all-trades is at a premium to NFL GMs when it comes to the LB position.

15) Steve Slaton (RB – West Virginia)
I'll go ahead and say it: he's simply not an elite back, and I look for him to drop off this list soon unless he turns things around. Only 69 yards rushing against Syracuse? Come on.

Watchlist:

-SS Kenny Phillips, Miami
-RB Louis Rankin, Washington
-RB Marlon Lucky, Nebraska
-WR Earl Bennett, Vanderbilt
-WR Mario Urrutia, Louisville
-RB Kalvin McRae, Ohio
-TE Shawn Nelson, Southern Miss
-CB Antoine Cason, Arizona
-FS Derek Pegues, Mississippi State
-CB Brandon Sumral, Southern Miss
-LB Robert James, Arizona State
-DE Chris Long, Virginia
-WR Jabari Arthur, Akron
