Fantasy Football Rundown: Week 9
By Ric Atkinson

It’s about as good as a regular season NFL game gets. Two teams with prolific offenses and outstanding defenses. Lots of fantasy starters on both teams. Two great coaches. Two of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. Two of the best wide receivers to ever play the game. Two up-and-coming running backs that can get lost in the shuffle. Two tight ends that are match up nightmares for most defenses. Let’s breakdown the game from a fantasy prospective.

QB: This one’s easy. Start either one of these guys if you have them. They both should have solid games. I don’t expect Brady to throw for five TD but he’ll still get his.

RB: Sammy Morris is done for the season. That’s great news for Maroney owners. As long as he is healthy he will get the bulk of the carries from here on out. I still expect Addai to lose some carries to Kenton Keith but he still is a start every week running back as far as I’m concerned.

WR: Marvin Harrison is cleared to play. The Colts need a solid game from him. I expect NE to try to shut down Reggie Wayne so Harrison should get a chance to shine. Randy Moss is once again Randy Moss. Play him if you got him. Wes Welker looks like a great play this week as well.

TE: Ben Watson should be back. I expect him to be used quite a bit early on as NE tries to force the Colts to use a safety on him. Dallas Clark is now a fantasy stud. He is a start every week player.

One match up I’m really going to focus on is Tom Brady vs. Bob Sanders. Brady is truly having a season for the ages. He is the best offensive player in the NFL. On the other side of the ball Bob Sanders is the best defensive player in the league so far this season. His presence is what turned last year's Colts defense (21st in total defense) into this year's Colts defense (4th in total defense).

Oh yeah, there are going to be thirteen other games this week. Here’s a list of some guys I’m looking to have big weeks:

Phillip Rivers and Antonio Gates vs. the Vikings:
The Vikings have the worst pass defense in the league. Now they’ve lost their best cover corner. Rivers and Gates should put up big numbers. Chris Chambers might also make a good #3 WR this week.

Kevin Jones vs. the Broncos:
Denver is the worst rushing defense in the league. For one week I look for the Lions to move away from their pass first offense and try to pound on the Bronco’s soft middle.

Lee Evans vs. the Bengals:
Losman is back at QB and he loves to throw the deep ball to Evans. The Bengals have yet to cover anyone all season so why should it change this week?

Washington D/ST vs. the Jets:
The Redskins have a very solid secondary that must be licking their chops at the chance to take on Kellen Clemens this week.

Let’s look in the old mail bag.

Joe in Baltimore asked:
Is Derek Anderson really going to keep up this pace all season long?

Yea, I think he is the real deal. He has some great targets in Winslow and Edwards. My only concern about Anderson is the upcoming schedule. His next three games are Seattle, @ Pittsburg, and @ Baltimore. That looks like a tough row to hoe to me.

David in Memphis ask:
Should we officially give up on Steven Jackson now that he also has back issues?

I haven’t given up on him yet. He looked great last week until the back started acting up. The bye week will give him a chance to rest up and get ready for the rest of the season. Speaking of the rest of the season, the Rams have a pretty favorable schedule the rest of the way. If Jackson is healthy enough to play, he should put up great numbers.

Ross in Charlotte ask:
What should I expect from Larry Johnson for the rest of the year?

After back-to-back 100 yard games, things are looking up for LJ. And with two games against the Broncos left on the schedule, he is going to have at least a couple more big games in front of him.

Well, that’s it for this week. Remember: Always start your Studs.
