Fantasy Football 2008: Week 13
By Ric Atkinson

Making your league’s playoffs means you’re one step closer to your ultimate goal. It’s win or go home now so all your fantasy decisions become even bigger. Here are some tips that will help you make the right calls when putting your lineup together. There are always guys to pick up off waivers, important start or sit decisions, and injury reports to keep an eye on. Keep in mind, everyone’s fantasy team is different so implement our advice at your own discretion.

Waiver Wire Wonders:

Kerry Collins (Thursday @ the Lions) –
Detroit makes fantasy studs of just about everyone. Collins is a good option for teams in need of QB help. The Titans D/ST looks like a great play this week as well.

Ted Ginn (@ the Rams) -
Ginn is showing all the signs of becoming a breakout fantasy player. In his last three games he has put up 248 total yards and two touchdowns. A great match up against the lowly Rams combined with the Dolphins losing #2 WR Greg Camarillo for the season should keep those type numbers coming.

Sage Rosenfels (vs the Jaguars) –
His recent numbers haven’t been anything to write home about, but the Jaguars pass defense is very suspect. If you’re in a bind for a QB, Rosenfels might be a good option this week.

Nick Folk (Thursday vs the Seahawks) –
The return of Tony Romo has revitalized the Cowboys offense and, in turn, Nick Folks chances to score. Folks hit 4 field goals of more than 40 yards last week and the Seahawks are in the top five teams in terms of field goal conversions allowed. This should set up for a great fantasy day for a kicker.

Who will be Asomughaminized this week?

Last week Brandon Marshall faced Nnamdi Asomugha and was held to 8 fantasy points. This week Dwayne Bowe will see a lot of Nnamdi, but don’t be surprised to see Oakland slide Asomugha over to cover Tony Gonzales in certain situations. Gonzo should still get his, but don’t look for much from Bowe this week.

Matchups I love:

Donavan McNabb (vs the Cardinals) –
I think the turmoil this week in Philly will be a wake up call for McNabb. With all the press coverage look for McNabb to step up. Arizona’s high powered offense creates high scoring games and lots of fantasy points for themselves and their opponents.

Roddy White (@ the Chargers) -
White continues to shine and the Chargers D continues to struggle. Look for really good numbers from White this week.

Hines Ward (@ NE) –
Big games always brings out the best in Hines Ward, and this is a big game, against a big name opponent, with big playoff implications. Look for Ward to shine in this one.

Ronnie Brown (@ the Rams) –
Every week the Rams are a great match for the running back facing them. Brown will continue to have a great overall season this week and will reward the teams that own him.

Matchups I hate:

Ryan Grant (vs Carolina) –
The Packers look to be skidding out of the playoffs, and the Panthers D will feel the need to make up for last weeks let down.

Jay Cutler (@ the Jets) –
The Jets defense is stepping it up for a playoff run. Their ball control offense is limiting their opponent’s opportunities to score. Denver’s D looks weaker and weaker as time goes by. This doesn’t spell big fantasy points for Cutler or any of the Broncos.

Matt Forte (@ the Vikings) –
Forte has been a fantasy stud all season, but with so much on the line in this huge game, look for the Vikings to sell out to stop the run, and make Forte’s day a very tough one.

Sleeper of the Week:

Maurice Morris (@ Dallas) –
Morris has taken over the feature running back role in Seattle. Last week he was able to break the 100-yard mark against a quality defense in Washington. One real upside with Morris is the week 17 match up against the Rams, so grab him now and hang on to him if he is available.

That’s it for this week. Good luck, and remember: Always start your studs.
